Look out while out and about!
« on: August 25, 2012, 09:25:28 PM »
I ran up on one while checking a camera today and within ten minutes dad had one under the tractor.  The darker of the two was 5' even, but bigger around than the lighter one which was 5' 2".  We have a healthy population of rattlesnakes and a lot of cottonmouths.  I have never killed two in one day, we kill a couple a year though.  I've never killed a rattlesnake on my place under 4'. [blink]

I'd ask that all of the herpetologist, hippies, fun-sucking, Obama-lovin, good people on this forum not lose sleep over me killing them.  Any legitimate arguments about their value to the ecosystem will fall on deaf ears.  I'll kill em all until I run out of ammo. [shootin]

Yessir Ryan, I have to agree with you. If they are moving keep shooting. I am glad you took those two out of the woods. Only time I will not kill one is if I have a bird gobbling.

In all my years of running around in the woods, I've never been bitten by a snake or come close to being bit. Or heard of one of my friends being bit.  You have to use common sense when you are out of doors. Don't go walking thru tall grass, especially near water. Don't go putting your hands where they don't belong, without checking first. Look before you leap. I've been around kids that weren't as scarced of snakes as y'all!  *lol*  PS- I don't really think you needed to put that last comment about fun sucking, hippes, Obama loving. people. That was totally uncalled for. Just something to stirr up trouble. This is a turkey call forum. Not some place for you to show your political opionion.  What goes around comes around!! Karma!!!!

PS-It seemed to head off negative comments until you came along.  ;)

I'm not scared of them.  I just don't want anyone like my dad, wife, cousin, or anyone else that hunts with me to get bitten.  A close friend fell off of a Ranger a couple years ago and landed on a cottonmouth.  It bit his pinky finger, and he cannot bend or use his pinky finger or ring finger on that hand.  This guy isn't some small kid, he is 6'3" 260lbs.

I don't know where you are located, but until you see the number of snakes in MS you won't "get it."

I have a standing offer, to prove I'm not scared of them, I'll start catching them alive and bring them to your land; especially, since you're one with nature and can appreciate their place in the ecosystem!  ;)

Do you think that where you live is the only place in the country that has snakes. I live in NC, and we have Cotton mouth mocassins that would eat those ratllers for breakfast. A cotton mouth as long as the snakes you pictured, would be bigger around than your arm. And, a head twice as big.  We don't need your snakes, we have plenty. I agree about killing them, especially if they're around where people live or places people frequent alot for recreation.
