Awesome weekend at Twisting Creek
« on: August 13, 2012, 10:13:45 AM »
I/We want to thank Jeff McKamey and his beautiful family for the awesome time we spent at his shop over the weekend.  *cheers* The McKamey's hosted the Kentuckians (FKIII, Joe Dirt and Myself) to a great time making and playing calls. We had a great time and kept the neighbors up to the wee hours of the night making turkey music. Breaking for dinner around 3 am we finally turned in around 4 am Saturday and was back in the shop well before 9 am Sunday morning. The man is a machine, No sleep for the wicked. We were happy to be apart of spending some of Jeff's hard earned money, when he pulled the trigger on a brand new DeWalt table saw *bannana*. His old Craftsman saw he used died and is now a boat anchor in the Tennessee River. ROTFLMBO We also want to congratulate the McKamey's on there new pet cat. *up* Jeff was really excited when he heard the news  *dance*. We also turned Jeff on to a couple new deserts. He now has a new passion for  Yum,Yum and Apple Pie !! :P  Jeff, thanks again my friend for putting up with us! We didn't mean to slow down the Callmaking / Moonshine machine you use to make your calls. We had a blast and hopefully you will let us return again...... I can't wait to see the "next pet" you all get next year!!  *peep* *bannana* *bannana* *bannana*

I heard about the shine and how good it was, need to try it sometime.  Did Jeff show you how to make his famous trough calls?  I am sure it was a blast and his family did you right. Jeff is good people and a true turkey addict.  Did you have any cokecola while you were there. I am sure there might have been a can or two laying around.

Glad y'all made the long trip home safely and now have a wealth of knowledge on box calls.  I was hoping you guys took some good pictures but I am sure they will be posted later.

Ha hahaha Stoner----
Gotta say--I was a blast having all three of ya'll THIS WEEKEND FOR SOME TALL TALES AND MAKING SAWDUST.
Last year---when they came, working for UPS , unlike me at the car dealership, I dont really think they are used to really "digging in" and getting-r-done. We started working and 5:30 AM came really fasy. We never even took time to eat. This year---they showed up with food  ;D !!! They began unloading a BBQ Boston Butt, Yum Yum for desert, and Apple Pie Moonshine to wash it all down with  ;) :o *up*.
It was on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We sat around playing calls and killing turkeys and began to work in the mddle of the afternoon. The first time I went to the table saw---we had a problem. It was terminal.. *fall*. We saddled up and ran to my buddies shop to heist one for the weekend.....got it back home, and couldnt get the balde off to get the right one on..... *wha*. Even them blue blooded Kentuck"ians with their "backwoods" ingenuity couldnt do it---so off the Lowes we ran. We got thew new saw set up and discovered we had another issue. All my jigs I have made for my old table saw would not work on the new one due to the neW bed size---so we had to IMPROVISE AGAIN. Not a good start---what else may happen I thought  *lol*.
We got started and the sawdust was a flying.....Watched ole Joe make his first ever Longbox and the moment he struck the lid on it---the reward was there for all of us---he grinned from ear to ear. That was special---
We broke after 3am for supper and gotta say---that yum yum was unreal !!!! And I have discovered a new delicacy for Witter---some of Joe Apple Pie moonshine---I am not much of a drinker, but that firewater is GREAT !!!!
aNOTHER FUNNY STORY IS jOE FINDING A STASH OF OLd CALLS i HAD THAT i WOULD NOT EVER SELL----HE GOT TO PICKING THROUGH THEM, and left with a box load  *lol* *lol*
Having them for the weekend is a great break for me and I consider them dear friends I cherrish spending time with. I am sure there are pics and stories to be told on each other to come. Its was a great time guys and I look forward to it again.

I failed to mention what to me was one of the best moments of the trip----Ole Frank saw my 3 girls and called em in the shop and got his tote bag out----he pulled out not one, but three of his copper killas and gave each one of them their own with the condition that each of them call in a bird for me( I think one of the calls wa a collaboborating call he and Brent made)----my grin was larger than theirs!!!! The boys worked with the girls and had them playing turkey music in no time. I hope and really look forward to when all three have taken me and called a bird to my gun. Hunting with each of them is so cherrished. I have always strived to make hunting fun and interesting to them, its a special thought for each of them to take me, and call me a bird in !!!

man o man, what a vacation, i mean trip it was to twisting creek's shop.  and here i thought Fords were built tough--ol McKamey and the toyota dept should have that slogan.  like brent said--he is a machine!  and cant thank him enough for having us daown there--Lord knows he sure put up with his share of goofyness, haha. Stayin at his house was like being at a resort, his family was some of the sweetest folks a fella coulda met.  His daughter was so excited to see us that she started doing "no handed flips" it was truly amazing down in Ootlewah TN.  I cant begin to thank Jeff for him teaching me about call building and his help gettin me on track--i feel bad for using 3 or 4 wood blanks worth for 1 call but it sure turned out into a gem.  I had the biggest smile on my face when Jeff threw that canarywood paddle lid on my butternut box and she sang right from the bat...it needed a little tuning and Jeff was able to fine tune it to where birds were flyin out of it!  It has the best yelp and roll over i could ever want in a sweet rear end call!  I cant think you enough Jeff for the southern hospitality you and your family showed us!  I think the apple pie had a little something to do with the laughs and slow process we had but it sure made it all the more fun!  We did manage to eat a little bit this time since i think that was the only complaint that frank and brent had from the last truip--so we made sure we had plenty for us to snack on while watching Jeff do his magic.  The food was tasty and stories were told--just like good times are suppose to be made of!  I'll have to call ahead to the McKamey residence to see when an opening is available to take my vacations down there from now on, haha.  And as far as me getting a few extra calls from Jeff--i couldnt help myself to his "extra" stash of older calls, if only i could have found a bigger box to fill up!!!  hahaha....enjoy the jerky and the rest of the snacks we left behind Jeff, it was AWESOME being down there, thank you my friend!   *cheers*
