Hatch Looks Bad in Mercer Co. WV
« on: June 12, 2012, 02:11:01 PM »
Farmers are getting hay mowed around the house. In the last 3 days I have seen 5 differant hens with polts.
2 hens had 4 polts each,
1 hen had 1 polt,
1hen had 2 polts
 the last hen had 1.
We have had alot of rain from the middle of May to 1st part of June. Turkeys are down hear anyway and it does not look like it is going to get any better any time soon.

Still up in the air about the central part of the state. I did see a hen with what looked to be 4-5 poults yesterday. That was the first time I'd been able to get out so not alot of info there.

Same around here Lonnie Joe, been watching 2 hens by the house. 1 had 6 with her 2 weeks ago and shes down to 2. Predators I presume. The other 1 never got her hatch out of the nest, as she was hit in the road. Gobbleing was nill around here this spring and I only saw 1 mature gobbler and 4 jakes the whole season. Looks like the South will have to rise again.

The first morning was welcomed with 2.5 inchs of snow in McDowell Co. WV.  After that season was pretty good using the right calls.
