turkey fan feathers

On one of the birds I killed this year, it has 3 feathers in the middle of the fan that look like wing feathers.  Just wandering why or if anybody had seen that before?  This turkey had nice spurs, so I didn't know if it was age that affected them or not.

I've been told the wing pattern in the tail can start with thier first adult tail feathers.

I have taken several with the same tail feather configuration as yours.  Not sure of the biological reason but I am sure someone will have the answer and post it soon.

The few I have called in like that didn't have the barring the full length of the feather.  Are yours?

Killed one like that about 10 years ago and it was one of my best birds ever with a triple beard to boot. I have never seen an other one in that area or any where else for that matter.

they were about half of the feather and were skinny to the tips, it's not going be a pretty fan, but I'm going to put it on a plaque anyway.  My biggest bird so far, he had a double beard as well Bill. They might be cousins.
