I just got home from Kansas. I can say the food, accomodations, and hunting partners were as good as any I have had on a hunt. We stayed in a lodge that was something to see. You could actually call it fancy. I just wish I could say the hunting was as good. The turkey gods definitely got even with me on this hunt. As good as the hunting was last week for me on my trip out West it was that bad this week. In 3 1/2 days of hunting I never heard a gobble on the roost or saw a mature tom. I basically deer hunted turkeys for 3 1/2 days. Some sets I would stay in the same place for up to 4 hours. The breeding is over there and looks like it has been for a while. As you guys know it is awfully hard to hunt a non-gobbling bird.
Congrats to Steve on the fine bird he killed. He got on his bird at daylight the first morning. He was hunting in an area that seemed to have some birds. I think he heard birds on the roost all three mornings. His bird was one of the best Rios I have seen with a real rope for a beard and good spurs. It was also heavy for a Rio.
Congrats to Bruce for staying awake and not shooting a jake. Take it out on the walleyes on your fishing trip to Minnesota.
