Callmakers and Collectors show/competition
« on: April 30, 2012, 04:29:47 PM »
The Callmakers and Collectors show/competition is in the process of reviewing its call competition rules and porcedures. They are also trying to take steps to accompdate the other type of calls, for some reason the show has always drifted towards Duck calls but it was meant to be all style calls. I am part of a committee formed to work on this.

One thing I feel is you cannot compare a Duck call to a Turkey call and extra divisions would be needed to accomidate Turkey callers. We dont want to overload the show with too many divisions right off the bat. I am comming to all of you for help and suggestions on what classes you think would be good to add and what you think would add to the contest to make it better.

I was thinking 3 divisions to start, Decorative Box call, Decorative Yelper, and a Decorative Perdator/Owl/Crow. These are not set in stone and might not even be what are created. We are just begining the process and want to get as much information as we can.

What does everyone think? Would anyone even enter?

Kevin , most of us turkey callmakers make hunting calls . I would suggest having hunting call categories . If you are only adding decorative calls , then you are limiting who will enter.

I agree, hunting calls should be priority over bling bling....

Yeah, I'll bet they don't have just decorative duck call divisions, do they?

A turkey call is a turkey call. Instead of having hunting and decorative divisions why not have them combined Give equal points toward looks etc as well as sound. You may end up with a nice looking caller you can use.

If you are limiting divisions, I think friction, air operated and locator should cover all of your bases. Unfortunately a box call will win the friction  and a trumpet will win air operated. That's just my opinion, but point being is that one wouldn't feel they have a shot unless they make those types of calls,in turn limiting partisipation. I think if you do turkey calls, you have to have specific catagories........and there are a lot of types of calls.  I for one would enter!!!!  Hope you can get it going

The show is a custom call show with no hunting classes, it is all Decorative calls. Its a show strictly for bragging rights no prize money, you pay $10 a call and you get to keep the call. They do have an optional call auction the night before and you can add the call only if you want for 1/2 the money or as a full donation to the club.
I was thinking of only having 3 divisions in the begining until the show builds then more divisions would be added. There is also another twist to this show you can only win Best of Show 3 times and are retired and can only compete in a Master Class, and can you only win a Blue Ribbon max 3 times in each Division and then you can no longer compete in that division. They did this so nobody dominates a Division and everyone has a chance.
