Switching Callers

Why is it I still make the mistake of switching callers   The only 2 callers I don't is with a Trumpet or Tube. I have buggered up more turkeys than I will want to admit

After recording for so many years I have found getting set up an hour before daylight will not bust the turkeys off if you are quite. If you know pretty much where they are roosted then try it. Sit absolutely still once the light breaks the horizon. Movement is the only thing that will mess it up.

What I have found is a Turkey has a 30 min attention span under darkness. If you can get to your spot with out much noise, you can walk under and past them. Out of 100's of times I have busted only a few. When a full moon and in an open area.

A lot of times they fly down and game over

Are you saying you don't swith from trumpet or tube?

If he answers the call you're using, why switch, but if you playing a call and no repsonse, why not change it up. I'd hate to go to the house and not use another call out of my vest.

Are you saying you don't swith from trumpet or tube?

Yes...... for some reason if I start working or calling with either a trumpet or tube I am less likely  to switch callers in mid stream. I used to have a bad habit and switch from using a long box and use another call to "finish" with. I learned the hard way that switching callers , or using multiple callers from the same position has spelled doom to my hunt. The absolutely worst "habit" I had was with a mouth call. As an X competition caller I would always have a caller in my mouth and just Have to use it....lol.

The trouble is..... it's turkey hunting. Which means MANY times switching callers is what "worked"!!!!!! It's just one of those things everyone learns at some point what NOT to do....... and you do it anyway...... knowing better

Denny was the first true Legendary/hunter caller I met early on. By this I mean he WAS the Man to beat in calling contest. I guess in my view he was the first person that really sounded like a Turkey and not just a great contest caller. He raised the bar like no one before him...imho.

Then when he took up the camera I think he made another huge impact on turkey hunting.

I understood you....... busting turkeys is just part of turkey hunting, knowing  the land or not. We ALL have stories of those "sick" moments
