With the property that I hunt being at a death's door due to floods, I hunted different places this year in hopes of finding a few birds. Well I got the real slam this year. Called in and shot the biggest coyote that I have ever shot, when my Ala. bird shut completely up the second morning of that hunt. Came back to Ms. and could not get on a bird here until this past Mon. AM. called up two very late hatched two year olds(Due to the spring flood two years ago). They worked great and when they stepped out at 40 yards, it became a question of whether the beards were 6 inches or not. I passed them up feeling sorry for them, and moved to a crossroads where a big head was seen the week before. Sat down and yelped up and shot a very healthy bobcat about 10:00.
Finished my season on a hunt with my son at a farm where he had permission. We went to a corner where some birds had been coming out. Heard a bird gobble over in the woods after flydown. I got real aggressive with a short Turpin gobble box and my cutting call. My son says, "There's a man on this treeline to my right and he he fixing to shoot your stutter. I yelled, "Please don't shoot my decoy, I just paid $80 for it." My son said he went high tailing it down the tree line--- so I passed on that shot.
Over all it has been a fun, but unusual season. On a bright note, the Mississippi is down and a flood is out of the picure. Should see a bumper crop of poults on the river this fall.
