There are several people that I know who either make a true Turpin Style Call or a derivitive of a Turpin Style Call. A few that come to mind are Steve Turpin, Billy Buice, Frank Cox (Frank can play one of these calls very good!), Irving Whitt and Charlie Parrish. I have seen Turpin Style Calls made with or without a handle. The true "Turpin Call" was made out of a Solid Block of Wood. The Block was mounted in between centers on a Lathe and the Handle was offset turned on one end of the Call Blank prior to hollowing out the Call. I have seen several Call Makers that using a mortise adn Tenon to add a handle to the Box and calling it a "Turpin Style" Call! Most of the Turpin Style calls that I have seen come with a Chalk Holder with a cork stopper in it which fits into the sound chamber when the call is not being used.

Here is a Turpin Style Call that I added to my Collection several years ago that was made by Billy Buice from Georgia. It is made out of Striped Maple with the traditional acid finish that was and still is used on Replica Muzzleloading Rifles. Billy uses a unique style when he makes these calls in that he rips the Call Blank down the middle reverses it and then glues it back together prior to making the Call. By doing this the Curl is going hte same way on both sides and it makes it much easier to tune the call.
