Young tom at my shop

I was in the shop turning a pot call yesterday when I heard what I thought was a gobble outside my shop. I took a look through the window in the door and there was a young tom "6" beard" with two Jakes within 35 yards of my shop. The picture was taken with my phone through the window. I hope the call works this well when I mount the slate to it. Season doesn't open here until the 14th. I had a few old toms that have disappeared as of late and I was talking to a neighbor about them and he told me that he had heard a shotgun shot one morning and hadn't seen the big old tom sense. It kills be that so many people in my area kill deer and turkey year round.

Hey there Jack...love the crow call you built for me a couple years back.  Would really enjoy a few visitors like that at my place...sorry to hear about the alleged poaching..we'll have to send Ole Bullock your way to get things straight.  Hope you are able to locate some birds and have a great season.

Thanks everyone, I am lucky to live in such a pretty place. I've never hunted near my home but I might this year. I've always hunted much higher in the mountains here in WNC. The lack of acorns up high last year has moved most of the birds lower down this spring. I've been in my old hunting grounds a number of times this spring and only saw one hen and hardly any sign. I'm afraid that the lack of food may have made for a hard winter on a lot of the birds in our area.
