Here is my latest scratchbox to come out of the ShadeTree Shop . This call is made from California Redwood that was salvaged from the stable that used to house the famed racehorse "Seabiscuit " subject of several books and movies . Seabiscuit was a powerful racer who lived from 1933 - 1947 and won 33 out of his 89 races . In 1938 he was awarded the title of " Horse of the Year " . It has been said that Seabiscuit was an inspiration to many Americans during the Great Depression years . Originally from Kentucky , Seabiscuit spent most of his life in California after his first owner and trainers decided he was not worth racing . This wood came from his home and burial place on the Ridgewood Ranch in Willits , CA. I was fortunate enough to talk a good friend out of some of this wood and it made for a great scratchbox call . I chose to leave the rough-sawn surfaces on the call because of the rustic appeal . The soundboard is made from cedar that came from an ancient fencepost from Missouri . The base is sapele .
