Look under you feet
« on: March 31, 2012, 08:31:28 PM »
Found this fella stretched out in the road I was walking down. He was laid up on the oak leaves. A little over 4' long with 11 rattles. Makes for a nervous day day. A load of number 6's takes care of him.

Yeah, that gave me the creepy feeling that I had about a week ago, when I ran into mine.  He was longer, but had less rattles.  We must have passed right by him on the way in to hunt turkeys!  I let my buddy shoot him.  On the way out he was talking about how he just blew one of his pricey hevi-shot loads on a snake, and I said "Why do you think I let you shoot him?"  *lol*

Here is the current status of the snake:

VGJ5, that is tooooooooo close for me, DEAD OR ALIVE.......... *lol*

Bill, you're right, I should have titled it....Look where you're walking. I was about 10' from him when I saw him. I cut an eight foot long stick to kill him with and then realized he was a lot more agile than I was (with all that hunting gear, snake boots unlaced and all. So I threw the stick down, grabbed up the ol' Mossy and let go with those Supreme #6's.  ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO

I came across one of those guys last week.  Except he was about 16" long.  Made me more nervous than the big one that warn you.  Crawling and putting my hands down without looking have been put on hold for awhile.  Baby timber rattler....meet Rocky Snake boot heel!!

Always a good reminder!  So far this turkey season I have come across 2 cotton mouths in the Big Cypress, 1 copper head in south Alabama, and a pigmy rattler along the Withlacochee River in Central Florida.  And I was within 3 feet of each of these snakes before I saw them.
