In the aftermath of the April 27, 2011, Smithville tornado, I obtained a small board from a pecan tree that had been salvaged after having been uprooted by the winds. After drying the wood all summer, I made a Limited Edition of five Mississippi Scratch Boxes from that board. Never having built calls from pecan wood, I was really pleased at the raspy sound I was able to produce.
The inscription on the calls lists the date and place of the storm, and the species of wood. I signed them and noted the month and year in which they were made. The four other calls in the series have already been sold to collectors across the South.
I reserved this call, #1 of the series, for sale at silent auction at my home town NWTF banquet on March 29, and 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this call will go to the North Monroe Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. If anyone would like to place a bid, call Angie Hendrix at 662-315-6745 to place your bid. Just tell Angie it is for the Pecan Scratch Box.

Thanks for looking!
