Tunig a new box call

Just wondering if anyone would be willing to part with some information on what steps they take to tune a new box call that they made.  Where do most of you find is the best place to start??

Tuning involves several steps  from the soundboard edges , thickness of the sides and such . If you are referring to thinning the sides , just scrape them with a straight-edged knife a little at a time until you achieve the sound you are looking for . Just do it slowly because it's like a haircut , you can't put it back once it's gone . Good luck , shoot me a pm if you have any questions .

Great advice from Bob. I'd add... Start with a solid foundation to begin with.. What I mean is, soundboards on the box need to have a very consistent radius, and be the same on BOTH sides. Also, paddle radius is important.. Something you'll have to play with. If you don't have these things, all the tuning in the world ain't gonna work too well.

Another thing that I have noticed is, make sure your screw is straight. I've played many a box that the screw was one sided which causes the paddle to hit prematurely thus raising the paddle and causeing your roll over to fizzle out. When you chalk her up and run it, there should be a set of angle wings on the paddle. These should be looking the same from both sides of the sound boards.
