Thanks everyone, just don't post much of my work. Sure do enjoy seeing all the talent on the Roost though.
The story behind this call:
The sugar maple the wood came from was one that stood in our backyard for many a year and we enjoyed the shade it provided us during those warm summer days of tag, baseball or whatever my four youngins could dream up. It was slowly dying and in 2006 we took it down. At first it was a little sad to loose that tree but when I fell it and saw the grain, it was time to smile again. Well, I cut, painted and let air dry until 2009 when I decided to make my first call out of this spalted wood. This call was going to go to my Dad. Before I completed this call we unexpectedly lost my dad on July 3 2009. The call project was shelved along with the piece of purpleheart selected for the paddle. Now in 2012, when the request came from the Dogwood Drummers it was time to pick out some wood. I moved this call and paddle twice looking to see what I had on hand. Well, it was time to finish Dad's call. So this is what I came up with. Dad was a big fan of the JAKES program and this was the place for this call.
The calling side has a check pattern on it but other than that the box was too purdy to mess with. Sometimes I just gotta let the wood do the talkin'.
