Wiltz If a guy go's out and makes a call useing the same exact materials and specs as DD Adams than thats a copy. If he claims that it's an original than it's a fake copy. If he builds one and labels it a reproduction of the original than it's a reproduction. All other call that are built today I would call in the style of DD Adams. Just like guys who build Cost style calls!!

So based on your flawed logic, all our friend from Vermont has to do is change strikers, wood choice, or surface materials and he's no longer copying anyone.  So what exactly is your problem with him again?

I'm getting confused with all these internet aliases; can I just call you Turkeycommander or jOe instead?

It's called DISRESPECT.  That's the problem with that guy as I see it.  Well one of his problems anyway. ;D

I gotta say I agree with Tom,Lou and the others here. The guys a jerk ( maybe more so than me even  ;) ) and somebody needs to tell him what he did is wrong sounds like you guys already did that. There are plenty of less obvious, and less bold knock off artist out there though that might be worse cause they are smart enough to know what they are doing is wrong.

No what he said was he wanted Larry's internal dimension so he could make the call!!! That is copying "Larry's" call plain and simple!!! It has nothing to do with DD Adams orininal design and I really don't care how you try to twist it Wiltz the only similarity between any call made today is that they work off the same principal and are simular in design. A copy is an exact replica and that is what the guy in Vermont wants to do!!!

Dont get yourself so worked up Tom, the point being made here is that copying is far more pervasive than you might think.  Its also clear that what one man considers copying, another might not.  Like Wisky said, ol' Boy could have done his copying in a clandestine fashion and I can assure many others have done just that.  What can be done?  Without a patent or copyright, the answer is nothing.  I understand your frustration, but this is not the first nor the last time someone will be copied in call making. Trust that Larry's on a road that many other call makers have already traveled.

For one of the few times, I agree w/ your point. I suspect, there are some patented designs that are being used (unknowingly) by many of the guys making pot calls...also. It is darn hard to make calls today that someone hasn't tried at some point in time that have been incorporated into a given callmakers call. Copying, to me, is when someone knowingly takes another persons' (unique) idea or design and makes that call and calls it his own. Unfortunately, as angry as that would make someone, it happens all the time.

I think that most of the truely good pot calls, trumpet calls and box calls are so close to being  the same that most non call makers couldn't tell the differents.  Now everyone like to think that they have that special mojo to make a call unique but the truth of the matter very few has that special mojo and the rest of use find it fun looking for it.

Then you have guys like this one and I'm sure if the truth was really being told that some of the well known call makers have done something like this but not to this degree and some even worse.   My feeling on it is knowingly measuring someone call is just wrong. If you want to make a great pot call or any other call then put the time into figuring it out don't steal it.  Nor be like this guy asked for it, the bottom line is that this guy wants to make money not calls.  heck, simply don't buy them after he get a stock pile he'll quit.  Now this is JMO an we all know what they say about opinions.

Once a call is sold then it no longer belongs to the callmaker if they can turn a profit on it, then more power to them.  Unless I need to fix a call or tune it then I more than likely will never have that call again but don't think that you are going to get call after call just to sell them.  If the callmaker allows this to happen then they have nothing to complain about.  Should be thankful that it was purchased the first time.

I'm not naive enough to believe that copying is not happening. I know it is!!

I also know for a fact that there are new designs that have not been tried or are not out there yet.

I also know if I find out that someone copies another call makers design I will expose them for what they truely are and thats nothing more than a THIEF!!!

I've heard of callmakers microwaving pot calls to take em apart and see how they are inside. I've heard of callmakers x-raying calls too. Thats just what they admit to doing on a public forum. Maybe I'm missing something but that is just as bad maybe worse than what the bold idiot tried to do.
