Stump kicking
« on: February 11, 2012, 02:03:56 PM »
I get most of my wood by walking the heavily treed areas by my home, and doing what I call stump kicking. There's a lot of oak, eucalyptus and bay laurel. Most of the time I can kick loose stumps or roots from blowdowns.
I was out yesterday getting some bay laurel for a customers call and stumbled across this stump. I have walked past this thing dozens of times and never saw it. I returned today with help.

I cut into it and was floored to find nothing but eyes everywhere.

Got to get this cut up before the wife has me making bowls again.

That Oak burl actually was kicked off the side of a big Ca oak.
