My son ,father & I went in the woods last week & made 2 ground posts knowing where the deer travel. We made sure we marked (Flur. flags & reflect. tape) them going in so other hunters would see where we had picked out. We got on stand nice & early. About 15 minutes before like I see 2 guys w/lights coming are way. My son & I both shine our lights at them. They come up about 50 yards from us & sit down, Cutting us off. They sat right right where the deer run up the hill. We didn't want to move, so we stayed. Well about 12:30 2 bucks came in to them & they shot one wounding it, I don't think they found it, Seen them track it & come back. These deer would have come right into us if they weren't there. When we seen them coming back from looking for the buck we left being we were cut off & the woods were disturbed. I feel bad for my son knowing how excited he was about going. I told him just remember that we spent time in the woods & It's about enjoying that time together.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience.Nothing you can do but teach your son the right thing to do. Thats the down side of public hunting.

Sometimes hunting brings out the worst in people. I don't get it.

I'm not trying to poke a stick in anyones eye, but it isn't just PA's public land that you find these people on. Several years ago my wife and I were invited to Spring turkey hunt on 500 acres of private land. First morning we set up on two gobblers and had three hunters walk up to within 40 yards of the tree and try to shoot them off the limb. The land owner ran up to them and and read them the riot act....so much for day one. The second day the same three screwed us up again...but this time we had a game warden w/ us. Not only did they get the riot act again, but some serious fines to boot. Pa has its share of jerk hunters!

Man I'm sorry to hear that. That stinks. I mainly hunt Private land, but while on Public land I've accidentally ran onto people and I always back out if they were there first.. That's the way it should be.
I hope your son had a good time anyways and learned what not to do!

public or private either way there are *poo* people all over

Sorry about your hunt being messed up bro....I dont think...I could have stayed there and continued to hunt, after they sit down...50 yds is too close,in my opinion....I know it would have been disapointing for your son...But I just dont think, I could have stayed there...I had A guy root me out of A spot one time, and I moved deeper into the swamp, and killed A nice buck. You should have seen the look on his face, when I dragged the deer back by him!HAHA

I had this happen the last day of our fall Pa.turkey season. The birds were broke Fri. night late and a friend and his young son and I went after them early Sat. morning. Just at first light two hunters approached us after parking beside our vehicle and coming into the woods. They ask where we were going to hunt we told them and they said they would hunt the creek bottom as to not interfere with us and left. We got the youth in position and when the birds hit the ground I started to call and they were on their way. The two hunters doubled back got between us and the birds and killed two of the approaching birds and ran off.
Just another day in the beautiful Pa.woods.
