Title: Man oh man..
Post by: Porter on August 27, 2010, 09:29:50 AM
The weather outside here in MO wants me out in the woods big time.  Hatches supposedly are pretty darn good in the areas I'll be hunting.  I have several new (to fall hunting) hunters wanting to go.  I cannot wait to get out in the woods and chase some birds and have people experience the sounds and thrill of fall hunting!!!

Looks like it will be a good year here too Porter, I have been watching several hens with some early and late poults every day where I am working. There is also a large buck and some nice does showing up almost every day at various times throughout the day. Yesterday one of the does came just past the tailgate of my truck on her way across the road to the upper field. I had been seeing five hens with the early poults everyday from 9am until around noon time, then one day a coyote came across the filed carrying something quite large, I was afraid it was one of the poults. After this occurance I didn't see that group again, but two hens with the later poults started to show up, so I'm not sure what happened. It is possible the first group moved on or something happened, possibly related to the coyote, or their basic necessities changed. I has been extremely dry here and the accessibility to sufficient water may have changed, I can only guess. I have also seen a large red tailed hawk in the area. In addition to all the other sightings, I have seen a very nice tom,,,,,,,,,we may have a future appointment..... ;)

I may need some help!!!  Hoping to hit MO and KS this year.  We'll see...  Start MO on Sept 15th with a bow.  It cannot get here fast enough!  October 1st starts the shotgun season.

I have been watching a flock of adult gobblers on a farm in KY. for three yrs now. As usual they are inhabiting their same old Fall haunts. I have obseved 13 Toms in this group this summer and they are roosting and feeding in the same place as always, right near the landowners house. This flock is usually so good that I can fill my tags with my bow without alot of work, and I don't even pack a shotgun there in the fall season. I love them big 'ol Commonwealth Gobblers.
