Jim, Jory, and I have been in Oklahoma over the weekend for a fast and furious hunt. I got home late this evening and I believe Jim and Jory are on the way back to Mississippi. Let's just say some tags were filled. I will wait for Jim and Jory to get home to do some posting.

Looking forward to it Rickey! Glad to have you back safe and sound!

Well said Zumer!!!

Zumer,
Remember your famous quote, "Patience Grasshopper."
I know Jim got some good pics of his and Jory's birds but you know how I am about cameras. I got pics of the second bird I killed but the only pic I know of that was taken of the first bird was on a cell phone in the dark by our "guide." Not sure I will ever see that pic but he told me he would send it to me. Dang turkeys in Oklahoma are a lot like deer. They do not move until 15 minutes before dark and then come in gobbling and strutting.

Come on guys ...........Let's see pics !!!!!!!

Our OK Hunt Gobbler Scorecard - Ricky 2 / Jory 2 / Jim 2
Unfortunately our "guide" didn't have land on a 2nd OK County for any of us to take the 3rd OK gobbler - we were in a 2 bird county ... :-\
Rickey took his 2 gobblers on the 1st & 2nd afternoon hunts, Jory took his 2 gobblers on the 2nd morning hunt, & I took my 2 gobblers on the 1st & 3rd (last) morning hunts ... 8) 8) 8)
... here's Rickey & Jory with Rickey's 2nd gobbler - with Jory's "little Marlin" killer Fiddle Box caller ... 8) 8)

It seems I killed the nightime birds and Jim and Jory got the morning birds. One of the birds I killed was strutting and gobbling and I could barely see my sight on my Benelli it was so dark. I also have a hard time counting to three but I will let Jory tell you that one. Let's just say I thought we were both shooting but only my gun went off. I cost Jory a bird the second afternoon but he made up for it the next morning with a double. This is the only pic I have of the birds I killed. I was not prepared for pics the first afternoon we started and killed one but shot a good portion of his beard off so he was not much to look at. The guide took a pic of it with his cell phone but I doubt I will see that one.

Let me say I had an absolute blast with Jim and Jory. You guys that met them at Nashville know what I mean when I say they are fine folks. I told Jim today the only way the hunt could have been better is if my son had gotten to go with us. I was on the way home when Jim killed "the boss gobbler" but we had seen him the day before and he was a real hoss. Can't wait to see pics of that one.

Looks like you guys had an awesome time!!!!!!!!!! Congrats to all

hey rickey don't forget we both did shoot. we will leave the details out (100 yards little to far), it was my fault for not shooting first but if i did then i wouldn't have been able to double up the next am (that story comming soon). so you will prob never hear this again but thanks for shooting first, and to all you guys that ever get the chance to hunt with rickey take it from me don't pass up on it. great calls, good times, good friends, and some dead long beards- doesn't get any better
-
and let me just say "little marlin" wasn't the only one involved in calling that bird, rickey laid down some super sweet turkey sounds before i ever made a noise and had 9 jakes and a hen in our laps, so the 2 long beards were coming to rickey's calling long before i started making noise, and yes i said 2 rickey got his and mine is still a live resident of southern oklahoma!

Great job guys! That looks like it would have been a blast!!!
-
Congrats Ricky..... Way to go!..... Awesome hunt and pictures!

Jim,
I believe the only pic we got of that gobbler is on the "guide's" cell phone. It was dark and I am not sure that one took.
Anyway, it was the first afternoon of our hunt. I had settled under a large oak tree along a fence line at the edge of a grown up field that had lots of grass and wild flowers growing in it. I had done some soft calling on my Black Limba aluminum call I got from SS and had 7 jakes come in to my decoys. One jake just would not leave my DSD hen alone. He would rub up against her, twist his neck like only a jake can, and then peck her. All 7 jakes were within 15 yds of me for about 20 minutes. They finally decided that there was no loving to be had and fed off.
I pulled out my Chad Zutter longbox and hit it aggressively. I heard a distant gobble. I hit the call again and got an immediate response. I looked through my binoculars and two fields over about 1/2 mile away there was a gobbler. I hit the Zutter longbox again and here he came. He was walking/half running to me. He would stop and strut and start toward me again. At about 150 yds away a hen ran between me and the gobbler and I thougt it was over, but I hit the Zutter and here he came. Beautiful sight with the sun hitting his red head and the tan glow of his tail feathers while he was strutting. I let him get to about 30 yds and hit him with a load of Nitro 4X5X7s from the Benelli and down he went.
I stood up to go to him and unloaded my gun. I had walked about half way and something caught my eye and there were three gobblers in the field about 100 yds away. I squatted down and hit the Zutter and they immediately answered. They knew something was not quite right and circled me and gobbled at every call I made. They finally went across the back of the field to go to roost. I stood up again and stepped out in the field. It is getting close to dark. I looked hard to my left and there are two gobblers about 75 yds away. I lay down in the field and hit the call and here thery come. They gobbled, strutted, and came to about 60 yds but knew something was not right and finally walked off. An unbelievable first afternoon in Oklahoma.
