Title: Vintage hunt
Post by: The Woodsman on October 29, 2014, 05:16:38 PM
Guys,
Many things changed in my life over this past year so I am going to try a vintage hunt this fall in memory of my dad and grandad.
I have dug out the old Woolrich hunting suit, Winchester Model 12 16 gauge nickel steel barrel with a modified choke that throws a so so pattern out to 20 yards, chambered 2 9/16",  an old Birmingham Lynch Jet Slate. My good friend Mr. Mike Lapp made my dad a great little oak pushpin call before he passed away while he was in the nursing home. A couple special calls to me will also make the ride.
I don't care if I kill a bird or not, just a memorable little hunt.
I hope to post a picture or so later.
Thanks for the look.
Denny

Sounds like fun, Denny! I remember those days..........Woolrich green and black plaid.......wood and blue steel shotgun and turkeys. Man those were the days. The simple life.....how, we have complicated things, since then!

Thanks all!
Supposed to have some rain and snow so my call selection might change a little.

Bill, it will be red and black plaid Woolrich, LOL. I just don't have the buckle up boots. Haha

If I come back empty handed, as far as I know, I will be carrying on tradition....... all good!

Had a good day out. No shooting but had a couple talking. Could have taken a decent buck at 10 steps, that is the way it usually goes LOL

Denny, Sounds like a good day in the woods, along with lots of memories.

BTW, I thought you had to spend hundreds of dollars and be camouflaged from head to toe with the latest scent killer suits to see deer........ ;D ;D
I stopped wearing camo deer hunting years ago. We hunt with dogs down in my area. I always wore a buckskin colored cowboy hat when I hunted. My uncle made the comment that he could see that hat shining a quarter of a mile away. My question to him was, "how about this 500 square inches of blazer orange, was it shining too?" His answer was "yep".

Sometimes it's the memories we carry inside of use that we seek the most. Sounds like a great hunt.
