Please share your favorite crow calls: commercial; not custom.
Thanks,
L-Wes

Johnny stewart hammerin crow.
-
My only commercial call is my Johnny Stewart electronic one.
-
Two votes for Johnny Stewart......Thanks
-
Since h.s bought j.stewart they have started making the hammerin crow too and as far as I can tell its the same call.
Another thing to remember with a crow call is you don't just blow in it. Not everyone can be trained to call crows. ROTFLMBO

Hammerin crow. One with the name worn off, and I can't recall the maker . And my Dad's old P.S.Olt from back in the early '60's. The one with the name worn of gets the most use on crows and turkeys .
WTH is correct, ya just don't blow through 'em .

I learned to call crows over 50 years ago from the legendary Francis W. Davis. In the years since, I have taught several others to do so, as well. Having not bought a crow call for serveral years (My personal favorites are the old black plastic Olt and a really great wood call offered by the White Owl Cirgar Co. offered many years ago.), I wanted to see what the current favorites are to help with buying calls for my grandsons. Obviously, I have received little help here. The snide remarks re: "You just don't blow......" are not appreciated at all.
If anyone has a genuine, well-meaning suggestion...I'd love to hear it.

Ok I missed something as the Don't just blow through them was good advice for a lot of newbies in my opinion. You know what I did the first time I picked up a crow call... blew through it hard. Sounded like *poo* No one around me crow hunted, so I had to teach myself. Wish back then forums would have been around and I could have learned a lot more.
I'd also bet WTH has been around a lot of people that have just blown in them over and over. I'm getting better with using just a call and listening to how to talk back to the birds. I was lazy once and just used an electronic call, but now I'm working more and more toward just taking a crow call.

Judging from the responses to my query, you would not get a lot of help from this forum.

Yeah this site is more devoted to turkey hunting. Not sure a lot of these members crow hunt. I picked up most of my info from crowbusters forum ;) It wasn't around when I started crow hunting though *cry*

You might want to get that thin skin of yours checked out its painfully obvious you've came down with that condition.
I was serious that the hammerin crow is a good production call. I was also serious that you don't just blow because I've seen people do it and wonder why the call doesn't sound right. I didn't know you were a wizbang crow caller with half a century of experience tought by some legend crow caller (whatever that is). Still doubting your hidden crow talents considering your the one asking what a good call is but ok.

You really have problems, don't you? Well, I wish you well; no one should have to be as miserable as you. You are, indeed, fortunate that there are electronic forums for you to hide in and spew your venom. I'm sure you do not do well in the real world.
Hoping you feel better (Take your meds),
L-Wes

Sorry that I gave extra advice on this post about calling crows. I didn't know it would insult your superior hunting skills and knowledge. From your other post I figured you didn't know much of anything.
-
p.s
Miserable is flying off the wall cause you thought my bit of advice was an insult or a snide remark.
Miserable is not laughing at jokers like you.
Guess we know where that leaves you.

L-Wes I use a old Knight and Hale crow call for getting a turkey to gobble for me. I use it during the rainy day afield. But let me tell that old call will flat out call in the crows. Some times in the spring I will take a break from hunting them turks and try and call in some crows. I know you are looking for a production type crow calls but if you go to crowmart.com you will see some crow calls by Darrel Gibson. His calls are awesome. If you got your mind made up to not get custom crow the ones made by Knight and hale will get the job done. But if you are really want to call in crows for hunting I would go with a good hand made custom crow call. Good Luck, Mike

L-WES I got one of them old black plastic Olt crow calls to. I forgot to mention a few others the Primos Power Crow and HS Crow are some good ones too. I just reread you post and seen these may be for your grandchilden. The custom calls may not be to best for them. That is depending on there age. The Knight and hale is the best production made crow calls I know of. I got some advise to you about hunting talk forums. It is still only three mouth or so from turkey season. The guys on this site like many other turkey hunting sites have guys about to go crazy cause turkey season is just around the corner. The guys on here are just having fun. I would not take them too seroius. See ya, Mike

Best I have ever heard was the Buckner crow call. Them thangs is remarkable

Thanks Mike,
Family has been Hunting crows for more than 50 years.
I use a combination of calls. I use the FoxPro digital caller along with my own crow calls. It makes for a deadly combo.
Best of luck

I don't understand some of this . Your first post asked for our FAVORITES . Most if not all have told you . So WTH added a very important tip to running the call and I agreed with him . IT WAS NOT INTENDED TO BE TAKEN AS A SNIDE REMARK . It is a genuine , well meaning suggestion . If you have a crow call that sounds REAL by just blowing it ,,,,,forget all the rest and get your kids the same calls . I haven't heard every crow call ,,,,,but the ones I have heard ,,,,when just BLOWN sound pathetic . But even a turkey will shock to a pathetic call , brayin' jack butt or a gun shot won't they?
-
I got one of Michael Buckner crows too. But his a custom crow call. The guy is wanting a production caller.
Best I have ever heard was the Buckner crow call. Them thangs is remarkable

i don't think you're going to get the response you are looking for. did you ever go to the crowbuster's forum? you will be more likely to find your answers over there.
