Title: Turkish Trumpet
Post by: mmclain on January 25, 2014, 01:37:04 PM
Finished this one a couple of months ago......in Trade for a trailer load of Black Locust lumber....

Turkish Walnut with a some curl and nice color....Gunstock oil finish and buffalo stem....very nice wood to turn and sounds very nice too...

I have a few more pieces and a nice piece of Bastogne walnut to try for tube calls and trumpets

Matt, that's an exceptional stick of turkish walnut, was that a crotch, or burl piece?  Just a great job on this one.

Thanks Matt...it was what looked like marbling grain that threw me off...actually I had a gun stock in mind, but I don't know anything about turkish walnut...once again it sure is beautiful.

That's a really beautiful piece of wood Matt.  I have a few pieces of English Walnut with exceptional figure and the wood is very similar to Turkish Walnut.  It's a lot better to turn than Black walnut.  Has a good sound too.

thanks Danny....you should try turning some as well....It is a little harder to get but is really nice to turn and finish....I'm building a ebony comb for my daughters trap gun...did one out of cedar as a model first.....

That is one of my favorite woods. I like it. You got any more of that wood. Is it hard to get.
