Looky what Steve Lumma created! Can you figure out what it's made of?

Don't know what the wood is but I do know that it is a fine looking yelper.

Mighty fine looking trumpet David. Steve did you right again. That wood looks a little like Black Mangrove I have seen some guys use to make trumpets.

Nope, not black mangrove. For the short time I've been following other folks callers, I have never seen a caller made from this on the internet anywhere.

Looks like ash similiar to that Lonehowl used in the crow call.

Sweet looking call no matter David!  I like the .22 rimfire casings for a touch in the picture as well  *cheers*

Nope John that was Harley shooting. I found me a another Cooper in a 25 06 and we've started working a load up for it. The 22 keeps him busy between loads. Nope its not a dogwood. I dont want to be a smart elic about this wood type. When I first seen it, I never knew what it was either. I had to be told. Here's another picture or two close up.

Well it seems not many are wanting to guess so,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, The first Trumpet I've seen or heard being made of,,,,,,,,,, Grapevine. To make it even more unique. The grapevine came from Peck Ranch Conservation Area. They are cleaning the food plots up and pushing the brush line back to make better plots for the newly introduced Elk herd. During this process I happened upon a large grapevine and brought it home. It split to much to make a box call, so I ask Steve when he was here turkey season if he'd make a trumpet out of it. He had it stabilized and look what I ended up with. A treasure to leave for the kids when I'm gone.
On a side note. They are eastern turkey genetics all over the states in the eastern turkey range that originated from Peck Ranch. Missouri has traded turkeys to many states to get their populations back in line with available habitat.

I am sure proud of this one. Thanks Steve for such a fine work of art that sounds as good as it looks. *bannana*

I never would have guessed grapevine. I remember you showing us that unusual piece last fall when we visited your place. Steve sure did a fine job on it and made something you can treasure and pass down.

Yes he did. It looks like it's really porous and was originally but when he had it stabilized it made it have a slick and smoot finish. It really is a cool piece. It may be a first and one and only. I'm sure it's the first picture I've ever seen or heard of. But,,,,,I have some more  ;)

It gives a whole new meaning to "Oh, he's behind the barn puffing on a grapevine"  *peep*

Sweet looking caller. We have vines that grow as big around as my forearm that I've looked at and wondered if I could turn strikers out of. I may need to cut some and see.
