Title: My Youngest Son.........
Post by: GR8CALLS on April 25, 2012, 03:02:52 PM
.........and I snuck out this morning. It was 31 degrees and a heavy frost, here in Va. but that didn't stop the gobbling. We set up on a gobbler at 6:30 and by 6:45 we had three jakes walk right to us, at 5 yds. He passed on them and then we heard another gobbler about 300 yds away sound off, so we climbed a small ridge and set up. He gobbled for about an hour but wouldn't move one way or the other, so I pulled out a box call and did some cuts and cackles and he made up his mind that today he was going to die. And die he did, at 15 yds. JC was as excited as any one I have ever seen, and is hooked on Spring Turkey hunting for life.

Bill
Congratulations to both you and JC!  Only one of my three sons hunts, but we were together for his first bird and for my first bird, and many more thereafter.  There is no better hunting partner, as far as I'm concerned.
It is truly a lifelong addiction, and aren't you glad that it runs in families!

Jeff, actually, it was his second. I called them both for him, but they were years apart. I haven't pushed him to turkey hunt....he loves hunting, just not confident on his calling abilities. He now wants me to teach him how to use different calls, Trumpet, slate, tube, long box, but he really is struggeling w/ the mouth call. As excited he is about turkey hunting, he will be a fast learner.  *up* *up* *up*

Bill,  Congratulations to you and your son.  Nothing like passing on the tradition and see others "catch the fever".

I know you are going to have fun teaching him the calls Bill, can I come drop in for a few lesions too while school is in  ;D.....I have heard ya on a trumpet, and I have lots to learn !!!
I went to finish up Alabama this weekend, my middle daughter Allie didnt know I was going to the mountains to camp and hunt---I found out Friday evening that she wanted to go hunting this weekend....it CRUSHED me, I almost drove back home to do just that. This weekend is hers now---if I can keep her aways from her SOCIAL friends !!!
Enjoy the time as I know you are---those times with your kids in this sport are PRICELESS !!!!
