Quebec Turkey and a ShadeTree Callers scratchbox
« on: May 25, 2011, 11:03:01 PM »
Here are some pictures of one of my Canadian friends from Ville Mercier , Quebec . Jean Claude Levigne asked me to make him a set of two scratchboxes in different tones, both high and low. I made them from black walnut and cherry  . After waiting patiently for them , they arrived just in time for Quebec's spring turkey season . They have only recently had a turkey season so it is a big event for them . Jean Claude was successful on opening morning and I would like to share his words . He is French-Canadian and translates each word with a book as we talk . He is a great hunter who has taken many big game animals in his life .
" Hello Mr. Bob , how are you today ? Are you still hunting turkeys ? Friday was opening day in Quebec . I had a few Gobblers spotted , so when I set up just before sunrise , it was with great anticipation that I wait for the first light and the song of Gobblers ! After 15 minutes I hear the call of some Canada Geese coming from a lake not so far from where I hunt. At the same time , the Gobblers start to sing their morning song to the world around here ! I let them do this for awhile , then I start to play them a melody on one of the wonderful scratchboxes you made for me . One jake came down from the trees , followed by another , then the Boss Tom came in with two hens . He was messing around with the hens but as one of the jakes started coming my way from 500 feet away , he took notice. The jake was getting closer and would gobble each time I would play my magic scratcher . The Boss Tom could stand it no more and started running my way . Too bad for this Love Boy ! Thank you for the great scratchbox and for your time and art ! Jean Claude "
I thought this was a great story . Thanks for looking !
Bob

I thought I was the only one that noticed that. That's a chunk of spalt for sure.  RkLu RkLu
