... it was a beautiful, quiet, & calm MS mornin' on the backside of the place last week - just a great mornin' to be in the turkey woods ...
I had been doin' some soft callin' every now & then with a trumpet & a slate pot ...
... 'bout 7:35 the silence was broken by this guys gobble to a few soft trumpet yelps - it came from about 250 to 300 yards from the south of me ...
He gobbled 4 or 5 times to the slate pot's soft talk while comin' the whole time - each soundin' off from him was closer & closer ...
... within' 10 minutes of the 1st gobble he was standin' & struttin' less than 20 yards in front of me, in the red clover - what a fine sight it was ...

A quick cluck from the fine soundin' Magnolia mouth call brought his head right on up out of the tuck, & that was the last turkey talk this fine bird ever heard ...
... a big thanks to
Matt McLain, Ernie Fetters, & Gary Joffrian for the killer calls, & thanks again to
Smitty for the
"heads-up" on Ernie's very fine
"Sassy" Old Hen pot callers ...
