NW Nebraska Merrian
« on: April 14, 2016, 07:43:42 PM »

Just got back from my first Merrians hunt in North West Nebraska. The Pine Ridge area
Is really a special place, beautiful country, good people and a few birds.
Most of the grown birds were hened up all day, plenty of willing jakes. Hens finally left a couple gobblers early evening and I was able to bring them in. I was Bowhunting out of a blind
Using decoys, they just attacked the Jake, made a good shot on one, he didn't go anywhere.
  Couple of pics.

Gotta love those three blade heads

Chris, thanks for the nice comments. The bow is one of my old Bob Morrison Recurves. It's
Short so I use it when hunting out of a blind.

Turkeyman, your right. VPA 250 gr., serious medicine. The country is really different than anywhere I have ever hunted, it has a rugged beauty all its own. I'm hoping to get to go back this year, I found a real honey hole on the last morning, lots of birds talking in this secluded canyon.
Must have been a great hatch last year, I have never seen so many Jakes. Gonna be a bunch of two year olds next year.
