a short sculling trip for Redheads
« on: December 11, 2013, 09:31:01 AM »
Been keeping an eye on a flock of Redheads for a few days waiting on a clear day so me and a buddy could get the ole sculling boat out for the first time this year. Weather finally broke Tuesday afternoon, so I called Chris and I closed the shop up and we lit out.
Got started at 3:30 and we were in 22yds of them in about 30 minutes---we called the shot and we both took drakes ---it was a fun trip and I was back in the shop before 5 that evening. nO SNAKE BOOTS TODAY, BUT I DO HAVE ON MY TURKEY ATTIRE --- ROTFLMBO
Mr E....ya got any of these red headed mallards down there  *lol*

Very Nice Picture Jeff.  My hat is off to you, as I am jealous. *up*

We do get a few, but not many back in the cypress.  We do get opportunity to shoot a few on the Big Muddy when everything starts freezing up.(picture attached)  Generally, I am old school and shoot mainly mallards and let the itchy trigger finger young boys waste those $1.00 shells at the lesser ducks.  They love to burn that high priced ammo.

Here is a picture taken after a hunt on the Big Muddy in 2010.  It was 9 degrees for the high this day.  You can see the ice in the river in the background.  Every duck in North America was here on the river.  Limit in no time.  You will notice two greater bluebills in this picture.  We never get these this far south.  Did this day.  The guy that took the picture of my son and I, shot the pair.  Has the pair mounted and carved a Decoy to match.  He is a great decoy carver.
