Well the trip is over and the adventure is now a distant memory. It was a weird season here in MO. Hot, cold, wet, windy, snow, and probably a few more things I forgot to throw in there!!! I'm not much to hunt in the rain, but I did... I shot 2 does last Tuesday (forgot to take my blasted camera

) and then smacked another one on Friday. Saw a nice 6 pointer that kept harassing me... Antler Restrictions kept me from pulling the trigger

It was one big 6. I'm pretty sure it was at least a 2.5 year old deer, but confused why only 6 points. Oh well... hopefully he'll make it till next year!
I witnessed one of the most impressive flydowns I've ever seen. I stopped counting after hitting 60... but there were a ton of birds. The hens all flew out of the tree at the same time!!!! The sky just went to black!
The poor deer never stood a chance against the good ole .460 S&W. I'm happy to report, not one moved an inch (except for the movement from being hit from the .460). After my first 2 deer, I walk back to the truck to grab some ropes and gear to drag them back and there was a neighbor. They thought something had exploded. I explained I had just shot and figured that was it. He asked what I was shooting and I told him. He thought it was slightly overkill for deer hunting. I know one thing... I did not want those deer dropping off in the canyons up there. There were 80 to 100 foot drop offs everywhere. That kind of caught me off guard for that area of MO.
Although no monster buck was harvested, I have fresh deer for the freezer and I'm good to go for another year! We have a doe only season starting tomorrow and I do have a couple of tags left. Think it's time to dust off grandpa's 30-30 and try to harvest one with it. That might be the perfect way to end a great hunting season and give thanks back to him for getting me addicted to the outdoors!
Also, I came home to some terrific packages that I'll get photos and post up. I'm walking on clouds right now
