Elk & Deer Scratcher
« on: June 01, 2013, 06:42:43 PM »
This is a little scratch box made from walnut and antler (deer and moose), with a Butternut sound board and Holly and Ebony accents.  Since I incorporated antler, I carved a bull elk and buck deer on the front, and scrimshawed a turkey on the little deer rosette that is inlaid into the front. I scrimshawed a couple of fighting bulls on the striker, with a slate belly. That slate sure makes for a good sounding scratcher.  I've sat and played this thing for hours even before I got it done, til my wife put a stop to it.

Don't know what to say and if I did, the words wouldn't be appropriate for this work--simply fabulous.  Even the way you made the background field where the bull Elk are fighting...by clearing away the brown parts of the antler it looks like a natural meadow that the Elk are in--very very nice work.  I know it was intentional, but few would have thought to do it and fewer still would have done it so well. *up* *bowing* *bowing* *bowing*
