Well, the stars finally lined up for LeighAnne and me this afternoon. Juvinile season found us on heavily watched birds and to say the least we were over confidant....humility followed. She had 2 shot opportunities that morning, but just couldnt get settled in for what she said a sure shot. With their athletic, social, and school schedule---I have had a hard time getting them in the woods. This afternoon after I got in from hunt with a local landowner,LeighAnne came and asked if we could go this afternoon. I jumped at the chance. We arrived at Aubie's farm and yes---there were birds down low in the fileds and also with the spotting scope, I could see birds at the base of the mountain where the cattke shade during the day. We loaded the blind, 2 chairs,2 decoys,a cooler and her 20 ga and hit the neighbors woods to make a long walk to the ountain under cover so as not to get seen. We got there and set up...it wasnt any time that we had birds around us. Then eventually 3 jakes came a saundering and she said she wanted to take one---whatever she wanted was great by me. I was along for the ride. Then...a BEARDED hen appeared, and I told her to look---she began questioning why the hen had a beard, I said its rare...suddenly her focous changed. She said I want it instead of a jake....ok I said. After a little time we had her at about 25...she said she was ready for the shot ..she made a great one shot kill on her first ever turkey. She was elated but nowhere near as excited as I was. I saw her feeling the hunt...she felt what it is all about. I know I have a daughter here that will be back in the woods with me.
By all means ---check out her SNAKE BOOTS !!!!!!!!
