JET 1220VS Mini Lathe
« on: October 29, 2011, 04:35:23 PM »
I seen the other guys post about the best wood lathe. I ave been shoping around for awhile. I have my eye on the JET 1220VS Mini Lathe which has a 3/4 HP motor. Would this be a good choose. I found a good deal on one. Thanks, Mike

its a good one and depending on the price it may be a deal...i have the vs delta with a 1hp motor and the reverse...although i could live without it but it does come in handy sometimes...it was a lil less than the jet....but i dont think you could go wrong with either....

It was $559.00 and free shipping. Is the Variable speed worth the extra cost.

Do you have the Delta Industrial 46-460 12-1/2-Inch Variable-Speed Midi Lathe
by Delta?

Mike, I don't know about the price, but the Jet lathes are very good value for the money.  I have the old Jet mine 1014 that I've had for well over 10 years, and a Jet 1642.  Both are excellent lathes.  The reverse and variable speed are worth it.

thats the one i have...at the time i was looking the jet was a lil more than the delta for comparable models and the deal breaker was my local supply house had the delta in stock and my old lathe was dead...3 weeks before our season opener... *aah* *aah* either one will be a great investment and that dosent sound like a bad price for the jet i paid 600 for the delta...the variable speed is awsome...i can go from low to high with the turn of a knob instead of changin belts...which comes in real handy...also the delta has reverse which i probly could have lived without but after getting it it makes sanding a breeze...mainly wit my trumpets but it is nice to be able to sand both directions without having to change anythin....hope all this helps *up*

I love my Jet 1014VS.  That being said, I found the 46-460 for $575 on Amazon with free shipping.  You get a 1/4 hp more and reverse over the 1220 Jet for $16 more.  I would be buying the Delta.

I have a grizzly 10x18 and love it. Under 300 bucks. I'm sure  there are better ones but I love mine. Grizzly seems to make some really good stuff. Best of luck which ever one choose.
