The second challenge from Brent
« on: August 23, 2011, 07:56:03 PM »
The same day that Brent Stoner gave me the scrap of wood that I turned into my tree caller , he also gave me a piece of poplar . He had just recieved the poplar from Alabama and we cut all of it up into call blanks . Well one of them had a sizeable knot in one end which would seriously affect the sound . I suggested that Brent try to make it his first parquet call. But NO ! He insisted that I , the ShadeTree callmaker , should take it home and make a call from it . He couldn't have given me a nice straight grained piece to use . Had to be the piece he didn't want . LOL !
Well here is what I came up with for you my friend. It's a traffic light caller ! Red , Yellow and Green ! I used the mineral poplar , yellowheart and my favorite inlay , padauk . She has a nice medium pitch with alot of rasp on the end . And it gobbles nicely too . We will get out and put it to good use this spring . Hope you like her bud ! Thanks for looking !

Sweet looking caller. Is the mineral poplar green?  ;)

Yes the poplar is very green . The picture doesn't show it very well . I took the pic near sundown .
