Reminds me of that old song by Chuck Berry, "MAYBELLINE"

As a callmaker, don't you just love it when the combination of grain, wood, and angles come together to make that classic old raspy hen getting mad at you for trying to steal her boyfriend.

I was out in the shop the other day and one came together to produce that sound.  I got to thinking about the ole Chuck Berry song Maybelline and how he described the sound of his V8 Ford.  "BUT UNDER THE HOOD THE HIGHWAY SOUND" and how he caught the caddy and Maybeline at the top of the hill doing 110.

I just love that OLE HIGHWAY SOUND in a hand made box, and I know a lot of callmakers that get that satisfation from taking a couple of pieces of wood and creating it.  No greater satisfation than that.

I made a Chinaberry scratch box last week that was just positively 100%.  Even after 20+ years, this only happens about twice a year for me.  Don't get me wrong, nothing goes out the door that I wouldn't hunt with, but only very rarely do I hit the nail precisely on the head.  It is such a sweet feeling!  I told my wife that the call actually spoke to me, saying, "Put me in your vest.  Take me hunting!"  I did.  I will!
