Blackwood, Lignum and Fiberglass for rainy days

fiberglass? never heard of that. If a person is allergic to fiberglass should he not try a fiberglass striker?

If it's finished with a paint job I'm ok, but if it's raw.... not fun  *wha*
Shad.. it's a carbon arrow..small section with a wood end on it

Ok, now I understand

I love persimmon and canarywood, but I find those strikers and most strikers might play well on some glass or slate pots and not others. To me each pot is different at what plays best on it..       I often find that two strikers of the same wood from two different call makers play different as well  size, shape ect..

As for the fiberglass striker. It's was said to be a carbon arrow cut down.

Not really it's a fiberglass rod with a Blackwood head. I turn and sand the rod to the desired shape and add the Blackwood for weight and balance. I do finish the fiberglass rod to keep form getting the fiberglass on my hands dirung use. One of these strikers only gets better when it wet, the wetter it gets the better it runs on Copper or Aluminum that is.  You see the water help to keep the tip from filling up and slicking over.  Deadly combo.

I do not own a single striker made from those woods. hint hint.
Here are mine...in no particular order. Padauk, Zebrawood, Canarywood and Wenge.

I've got a Honduran Rosewood that plays good on every call I own. You can't mention wood types without considering head weight. This is as important as wood type.

Mark,

I'm surprised you have not mentioned an ivory tipped striker.......Steve makes a good one. RkLu

I run mostly one-piece strikers so, the head weight does make such a huge difference...

I do like the ivory, but they require a little more work. They seem to slick up a little faster. I do however carry 5 or 6 of them with me.

Osage, maple, walnut, hickory and hen bone are the strikers I always carry.

Of those, either the osage or the maple are my 'go-to' strikers.

We all have favorite woods. But none of that matters if the call doesn't like the striker!

Got that right. The only exception was that Kingwood Striker, played well on every call I ever put it on!

Seems like the harder woods are favorites......

Didn't see anyone mention anything about cedar, Alaskan yellow cedar, or the softer woods....
