some mystery wood?

Got this chunk for a Tenn fellow.  Supposed to have been salvage from a sunken river log. Mighty Mississippi maybe? The grain looks like 1/4 sawn sycamore in place but the pattern on the uncut surfaces is throwing me.  Mite make an interesting project.  Anyone got any ideas or seen this stuff before??

 The bark don't look like sycamore, at least the sycamore we have here. Ours has white blotches and real smooth bark. Wood looks like it though.. I'm with Jim, look forward to seeing what comes out of it!

Lt, Hackberry looks like that quartersawn...but the bark doesn't match...just call it the "Mystery Call"...might call up something prehistoric.. ........Charlie

 My first guess would be sycamore my second would be Beech.

Looks like sycamore grain, but that bark doesn't look like any sycamore around here. 

I do know one thing, it's not Osage

I agree Bill.....An ornamental type cherry.......those kind that bloom out real pretty in the spring.
