Osage Burl
« on: May 06, 2010, 11:59:05 PM »
Alright guys, I just won a chunk of osage burl on ebay. Anyone have thoughts on how this piece should be cut up. It's 11-12 inches in diam, and 8 inches tall. Should I slice it horizontal so I get 11-12 inches slabs or vertical. Going to make pots with it. It's still green so it will be a while before its dry.

WOW, Dave never seen one of those. Looks like it is a "bulb" in the middle of a limb or tree. It the inner grain is like most burls I wold cross grain cut it and get some trumpet blanks from it. Should be awesome. Also you could also have some left over for a couple pots on each side when the trumpet blanks are no longer possible! Just my 2 cents!
