Sat. Morning was super foggy at our camp in lower Al. I wanted to work some planted pines that I had seen plenty of sign in over the years. I thought I heard a gobbler sound off at daybreak, but with the thick, foggy air I just could't be sure. I hadn't heard anything for sure so I set up in the pines to do some blind calling for just a bit. I yelped a few times on a Hook's red mouth call from their Patriot Pack and boom, I definitely heard 1 this time. I let a couple of min. pass and yelped some with a little cutting thrown in for good measure. He cut me off. I got myself in a good shooting position and a couple of min. later not 1 but 3 2 year olds came running in to be the first one to get to the "hen". ! of them broke into a strut and then just as quickly came out of it. He died at 19 steps. He had a 9" beard, 1" spurs and a real lightweight. He weighed 15.4 lbs. I checked my watch after the shot. It read 6:32 AM. It was one of my quickest hunts ever.
