My New Pup
« on: February 25, 2010, 07:40:54 PM »
Here is my new huntin' buddy, he is a Plott hound/Pointer/Setter mix. He is actually a Byrne Appalachian Turkey Dog that I got 2 weeks ago. I can't wait to hunt him in the fall. It was also quite an experience to meet Mr. Byrne. I can't thank him enough for the dog, been waiting for a few years to get one! Meet "Gage", as in 12-gauge, without the "u".  ;D He is quite the character!

Congrats on the new addition. There is nothing like fall hunting with dogs. I'd take it any day over a spring hunt.

Thanks everyone, he is a good pup, but quite a handful. I tied a turkey wing to one of my fishing poles, and I break out the KP trumpet, and make putting sounds as he chases the wing around, its funny, but he can smell that wing as soon as I break it out. I just can't wait for the snow to melt so I can take him out in the woods for a walk.

Yep, me too. Don't get me wrong, I love hearing the gobble in the springtime, but I just love being out in the fall woods with a dog, and hearing the break. When I talking with Mr. Byrne, I asked him if he still turkey hunted. He told me he does when he can, but only in the fall, with his one and only dog, and he only goes after gobblers, and the only call he carries is one of his hand made wingbones from a gobbler. I though that was pretty cool. I am going to try and do the same sooner or later.
