Spoke with Lamar, this afternoon. He also played several of his newly, designed calls. I have played and heard literally, thousands of box calls. The call Lamar has designed is hands down the best I have ever heard. I know several others have actually had the opportunity to play several of these at Unicoi and many of those who played the calls are call makers. It would be interesting to hear their opinions. I have reserved one of these unique and awesome sounding calls for delivery, as soon as Lamar begins production.

What is unique about the design?  You are a judge and collector? I have not seen one. Mr. E

I haven't actually seen, so I really can't answer what makes it different. All I can say is what I posted before..........never head any box call like it, before.

I get the feeling that this is kinda like Obamacare,  you've got to buy it to see what's in it. Or it's rolled out before you get to see what's in it.   I believe I will wait and see what's in it.   After all I am a Republican.    *peep* *peep* *peep*

Spoke to Lamar last week about it.  Since I don't make calls it was hard for me to understand the explanation but it sure did sound good when he ran it.

Any custom callmaker worth that title should be able to make a box call that is the best you have ever heard.  But to come up with one like the Gibson box and receive a patent for his box call with a floating rocking paddle, is another thing entirely.

On a side note I was talking with the great grandson of  J.D. Parker in church Sun.  He owns one of the 2 original decorative Gibsons's and whether he was going to put it in Mississippi Huntng and Fishing Museum opening this next month in Leland, Ms.  Now that is a call that is truly unique, and worth the $ .   I'm no expert on patents but my understanding is, it isn't, a Gibson knock off! The Gibson call wasn't, in todays standards, an excellent turkey call. The decorative calls are rare and hence the collectors' value is substantial. The same can be said for numerous other "antique" calls.

Lamar, may indeed have a new design worth a patent. I simply don't know and speculating whether or not a patent is the right way to cover the design is yet to be determined by those far more qualified. One thing I do know, is that Lamar has been working on "his" design for over 8 years. I suggest we give him the benefit of both is reputation and his knowledge of call making, before we condemn his efforts.

Bill, I believe we were discussing the uniqueness of it.  Not once have I condemned his efforts or said it did not have a unique sound.  I would never say that about any Callmakers call!

Point taken! My use of the word "condemn" was poorly chosen. I guess our understandings of what he has come up with, just differ. As for the uniqueness of the call, only time will tell.
