Lee
« on: May 01, 2015, 10:34:00 AM »
I regret to inform you that Lee is ailing due to an unfortunate accident, not of his fault.   While hunting with my good friend Bill Henkel, he and Tiffany were doing their thing about 40 yards away when at about 11AM, a gobbler lifted off high ground behind me, and swooped past my right, beard a blowing, to land next to Lee.  Being caught off guard, as I lifted my gun, he caught the movement and started high stepping, keeping Lee between me and himself.  Drawing down on him I let fly with a dose of Long Beards, forgetting they shoot 4" lower than the last two XX  shells I brought with me and used to kill two gobblers in as many days on my three day VA license.  Old Lee caught the center of the pattern and was blown back some yards, stake and all, with the gobbler high tailing it unscathed toward the timber.  Picking Lee up I dumped about a dozen #6s out of his hard body.  He will wear a bunch more as witness to this sad event, while he presses on in his duties during the PA season.

Ralph and I had a very successful three day hunt. Ralph connected on gobbler # 1 a bit before 7 am, the first morning. Then Lee and Tiffany did their thing the next day at 11:30. Should have been three for three, but ol' Lee decided to jump in front of a load of LB # 6's and the trifecta was broken. Ralph is a lot of fun to hunt with and isn't shy about waiting a gobbler out, if needed!

Poor Lee....tuff times for sure.  But he will heal and be right back in the thick of things I think.  ;)  Makes a great story and a memorable hunt for sure!
