3.5 Winchester Longbeard 6s vs. 3.5 HeviShot 7s
« on: April 21, 2014, 05:16:21 PM »
Decided to take advantage of the absolutely gorgeous weather we had here today and go pattern the new Winchester Longbeard XR's... After reading all the great things about them and seeing the price compared to HeviShot, I had to give em a try.  I shot both the Longbeard XRs in 6 shot and the Hevi 7s thru my Mossberg 535 with a red dot scope and an Indian Creek choke.  Here are the pics side by side.  All distances were lasered. First pic is 30, the second 40, the third 50, the single pic is the Longbeards at 60 just for kicks; I didn't shoot a Hevi at 60. I'm very impressed with these shells! Longbeards are on the left of each pic with the Hevi's on the right.

Derick you have about the same results I did.  In 3" out of my gun, the 6s beat the 7s and the 5s are neck and neck with the 7s.  I am shooting 5s this season.  The 6s shoot to the left for some reason and havig areas we hunt that require non toxic, I didn't want to make an adjustment .  I will for thi sfall and I will shoot the 6s!

These shells are doing fine out of my gun and an Indian creek choke too!

Youre lucky you have a gun mine is still back at winchester olin with a blown barrel. Been sittying there for 3.5 weeks thanks to their long beard ammunition. They said it takes a month to look at a gun since they have such a back log?

Tested the 3.5 #6 longbeards through a Cabelas .665 and the factory full .685 choke in my benelli at 50 yards.  I found the .665 shot too tight for the average distances I shoot.  The factory full gave a nice even pattern on the 26 x 26" paper.  Still to test at 20, 30 and 40 yards. Might move down to the factory IM choke.

Both look great to me.
