Are Ya Kidding Me?
« on: February 26, 2013, 05:20:33 PM »
Here is a call I got a couple days ago. It is Doug Herman's Nail Call. A piece of Maple with a horeshoeing nail drove in the center and a marble stone as the striker best I can tell. This combo really sounds good and is pretty easy to pick up on how to run it. Great clucks, purrs, cutts, yelps, and kee kees. About as simple as it gets.

Dougs a great guy and at first glance at this caller my reaction was the same as yours.. But listening to Doug run it at the convention there is a ton of turkey in it.. Doug is in Merriam country and there is alot of merriam type sound in them..

Here is Doug's video of how to run this call.

After seeing the video, I bought one and have found turkey in it for sure. I love learning new calls.

Al,

It does take a little while to figure out how to run it but once you do it really sounds good. Some of the best clucks and cutts I have heard on a friction call. It is all about hand alignment, nail angle and pressure.
