Title: New endevor
Post by: MGCC on September 24, 2009, 03:38:49 PM
After tossing it around for a few months and being pro and con with the idea I finally said the H$ll with, I decided to give Micheal Buckner a call. I hasd been wanting to build a adjustable mouth piece trumpet and did want to COPY anyone or step on any ones toes.

I talked with Micheal and told him what I wanted to do and didnt want to infringe on what his dad was doing. He told me his father was  out of the call making business and he wasnt going to make anymore of the adjustables that he use to. he told me to HAVE AT IT and that me building them wouldnt be a problem as far as his dad or himself was concerned. So I jumped into the jib of trying to firgure out how to use MY internals. Didnt relize that I would have to make as many adjustments as I ended up haveing to. After several pieces of kindling and messed up mouth pieces I ended up with a end product. they turned out great IMHO. there is a lot of tone diffrences when you adjust the mouth piece in and out. It really shock me as to the amount of difference that can be made.

Bob and Micheal made the only calls like this that I have seen or layed my hands on as I am sure there are others out there. I didnt use any ones dimensions but my own to try to stay away from COPYING Bobs.

It takes more than I figured to get these thing to a finished call from start to finish but he are a couple pics of #1 (on the left side of the pic) which was the first one that I actually got the sounds from I wanted (made with delrin MP due to cost in prototyping)

#2  (on the right side of the pic) is the final version of what I want to put in the market. Wingbone MP

Great looking yelpers, Mike. I especially like the one on the right.

Marlin Watkins makes an adjustable mouthpiece on one of his yelpers but his call collapses for transporting. He may have a yelper with the adjustable mouthpiece, but I'm not sure.
