Title: ?Cutting Slate?

What method do you guys use to cut slate? I am having trouble with the slate flaking when I cut the pieces for my calls. I have been clamping a piece down with a metal rule on top and using a utility knife to cut it by going over it multiple times....this is also a little time consuming. All ideas welcome. Thanks.  ???

A hacksaw works good . Put tape on both sides .

Fine tooth hacksaw and tape on each side of the line that I am cutting? Thanks Bob I will give it a try.

scroll saw with a variable speed....make a 0 clearance plate with some .25 MDF.......

I always used a band saw with a fine tooth blade.

Scroll saw for me, I put masking tape on the slate , draw my cut lines on that,and cut through tape and slate together. The tape helps min. the flakeing,and scroll saw allows for different shapes.

 * hi *  I haven't tried this yet, but an ole millwright friend told me to soak it in water for a few hours before cutting.
I have been ripping it for slate cals on a table saw with a fine tooth plywood blade. Still get a little flaking.

Gonna try this water soak.
