I was wondering what everyone was thinking. I have a SBE and thinking about using the Winchester Xtended range.
The 3" and 3.5" have the same muzzle velocity. The difference in the shells is about .25 oz of #6 shot which if my math is correct is only about 56 shot difference.

I think that stuff is to high!!! I just us the Supreme....but I only use 2 3/4 shells.. I polished my barrel with a wooden dowel and power drill and 0000 steel wool,real nice pattern now.Have hammered everyone since..

I know its expensive but I also believe it will not be to many years and the tree huggers will get lead banned.

The muzzle velocity may be similiar but the recoil isn't worth the extra 1/4 oz. of shot . Stick with the 3" and you will break 'em all down . I have a friend who stands 6' 8" and is a large guy . He shot his 3.5" magnum Remington at a turkey a few years back and the gun recoiled so hard that it shattered his cheekbone. That is enough for me to stay away from the magnum loads !

I shot an 835 for years and its brutallllllllll! I even had some of the Nitro shells for an 835 I think it was a 2 5/8 load. It would rock your world.

It's true...............some of the 3.5 shells, do what I call, kill and cripple! They kill on the front end and cripple on the back! ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO

My first turkey gun was the NEF 12 gauge single shot in the original MO Bottomland camo. It did not have the heavier 10 gauge type barrel on it, but it was chambered for 3.5" shells. I shot that thing exactly 4 times before I traded it on a Mossy 500 chambered for 3". Shooting that thing 4 times made my right shoulder, my right arm half way to my elbow and my chest all the way to the sternum black and blue for days.
It was a joy to carry, but pure punishment to shoot. I can remember tangling with a really big dominant bird one spring day, took him 90 minutes to work his way in. At 11:59am, I caught movement and cocked the hammer on the NEF, fearing that recoil...that big bird stayed hidden until 12:01pm, and then stepped out into the clear, shooting hours over. I was somewhat relieved, great hunt, no bird but no loose teeth in my head either.
I carry a Winchester 1300 with synthetic stock and a 21" barrel. Almost as light as that NEF single shot, but shooting the 3" shell. Never had a bird get up and get away.
Changed over to the Hevi 3-2-7, I think this is about a potent turkey-getting medicine as you can get your hands on.
To each their own, but I don't see any need for a 3.5" shell when there are so many awesome loads available in the 3" hull.

A 3.5 is fine if you shoot it in the proper firearm such as a semi auto or a well balanced over and under.
They are a man killer in a pump or single bbl.

My first turkey gun was one of those NEF's also.... It only took me 3 shots before it was sold.... ROTFLMBO Your right they are a brute *cry*. I shoot a SBE and use a Trueglow choke with the Federal Hevi Shot in 3in. It's a pretty sweet rig!!
50 yard shots...... No Problem *up*

My 870 Express Super Mag doesn't kick bad with 3.5"
I shoot Hevi-13 Mag Blends.

I have a mossberg 835 and it patterned best with the Federal flight-control wad Mag-Shok's #5 shot, i use the 3.5's its not bad at all..as long as you only shoot once per turkey
it was a brute testing different ammo and different shot sizes at various yards!

I have shot a mossburg 835 with 3.5 for years. Now shooting a Remington 1187 with 3.5 (Magblends and even a few Nitros). Yes, targeting in can be a pain but I do most of the work with a field load to get where I need to be. Never noticed any problems or issues when shooting at critters. I have an older Mossburg 9200 that only shoots 3" and it kick just as hard as either one. Now having said that I do alot of my hunting these days with a little H&R 20 ga I customized. Mostly cause I like it and it is a pleasure to carry around. Less recoil was never part of the picture. Now for kicking .....I do most of my fall hunting and a good bit of spring hunting with a T/C New Englander percussion blackpowder gun. Loaded down with 85 gr of 777 and topped with 1 7/8 oz of 4X6 lead shot. It will flat out pin your ears back if ya don't hold on tite! ;D
