Title: Basehore victim
Post by: boxcaller on November 18, 2011, 07:37:01 AM
Was once again fortunate to spend a great morning in the turkey woods.  Scattered a huge flock the night before, and the next morning was very cold, crisp and calm.  I heard more turkey calling this morning than i think i ever did.  It was awesome for over an hour.  This old girl kept honkin in the tree down over the mountain, but wouldn't leave the tree,..there were birds walking all around me,..but i figured she was the dominant hen,..and concentrated on her,....she finally flew down and i was able to get a shot.  One of the largest hens i think i ever shot.   I used one of basehore's scratch boxes to seal the deal,....it truly is one of the best tree calls and soft yelpers i've ever picked up.   I can't understand why EVERYONE doesn't do this....... *ride*

Awesome bird. I would have someone make you a wingbone caller or two from her wings. How about telling a little more about that Basehore scratch box? Plus somemore pictures of that nice scratch box.

Scott's scratch boxes are very deadly,...I love all of mine,....I used a yellow heart one this morning with cedar and ebony striker,.....I like my red cedar ones also.  You should definitley get on the list for one of these,........i think the waiting time is only 11 years or something like that.

Didn't know Scott made scratch boxes.  I am due for my short box from him, hopefully pick it up in Nashville.  Got a long box 2 years ago and turned around and went right back on the list for a short box.  Might have to do the same with the scratch box.

Nice bird and nice story. It takes a lot of patience to wait on one bird. Good job.

ncturkey had a great idea about making a wingbone call, especially with a story like that behind it.

Hey Fred,.....we got quite a bag full of them this year,....unless all the whitetails fall over dead in Ohio and PA in the next couple days,...i won't have much time to make any wingbones, gotta get at least one more shooter this year.   I would rather have someone else do it for me (wink wink)

Sounds good, Pat. Just let me know.

Good luck with the bucks. The does have gone into hiding here in NC in the last few days. It was 75 here today. I wore my spring turkey hunting clothes to the blind. What deer I am seeing are bucks, just not shooters. I did see one really nice six pointer on Saturday but decided to wait on a bigger one. It was probably the largest six pointer I've ever seen.
