Title: Auction and proceeds for site -to clearify some things
Post by: jmck on August 04, 2011, 10:41:51 AM
With Porters curerent workload, I want to get some facts out for everyone to set the record straight here. There have been lots of rumors and curiousity about what this auction was about, how it developed and what the procedes will be used for. Maybe this explination will dispel rumor and set the facts straight for all members here.

This auction was the sole idea of one memeber here that had the thought of doing something different for the sole betterment of the site. Simple as that.
Porter never had any knowledge of the idea until it was moving forward and all plans were in place to start it. He was approached at that point and asked for his blessing sense it is his site.
His first concern was the money, he wanted no responsibility or did not want to hold it in any manner. He requested that a trustee hold the funds from the start and decesions be made collectivelly and he then request necessary funds as projects arrise.A few members that origionally started this site were contacted to be this 'trustee". These funds will be handled in a established bank account with a public starting balance and will be accountable at all times. It is the sites money to use as needed for projects and expenses as we progress.
Porter never approached anyone nor did the guys that helped put the event together about donating anything for the auction.  A post was made and those that wanted to join in, and they did it of their own accord. It was concieved as a pure voluntary idea to donate from the ones that enjoy the site to the site.
Porter has born the expenses to host the site sense inception and never asked from anyone for help. This is a great place to start off the funds a small percantage of the funds we have currently. He never asked for reimbursement---but it right for the site to bear the expense not him. Porter has plans to revamp the site and I will let him announce those plans to his members as we continue improving this place we all enjoy. Porter will never make decesions without a collaboration from the members with these funds.
To sum it up, this was a event to raise funds for a site we all enjoy that will benefit all of us as members.          Reguardless of rumors and un-truths, this was a good thing for all of us as members here. This gives this site additional opportunities to move this site in a positive direction that will benefit us all.

I think its a darn shame you guys have to make all these explanations to people that arent even regulars here....Just bc someone questions what went on ...The members of the Roost know what this was about, they know the character of the people involved ..All that were involved did a great job with this... and quite frankly in my opinion its none of anyone elses business...Just my opinion!!

i think the biggest issue was the lack of transparency and accountability.  i don't think there would have been any problems, or questions, if from the start, someone said "the money is going toward x, y and z", instead of saying that it's going "to help the site".  the vagueness probably had a lot of people concerned.

Point well taken and made Ron. That was our fault but the intentions are wholesome and the account will be respected and accountable for this site we assure you. Honesty, transparency, and accountability will be the goal for the betterment of the site  *up*

Great post Jeff.

Everyone that sent calls in had no issues. It was the ones on the "other sites" that had the issues and frankly, it was none of their concern. And a couple of you wonder why I screw with some people like I do (and probably will again)...........It is just a shame that some people have such a miserable life that they have to cause trouble for others. Thanks again Jeff.

Is that why you mess with me all the time  *peep*

Jeff thanks for posting this and it is very unfortunate that you had to do this in the first place.  Gotta love those rumors.  According to some, Me, Morgan and Richard are having a love affair...  so i asked my wife if her name was MO or Richard... she looked at me funny...  I'm guessing it is not.  So guess MO and Richard you are out of luck. ... I'm taken!!!   *lol*

I agree with Kyle  *up* .... I've heard the rumors and I have read what the trolls spread.  *aah* The old saying is.... "if they ain't talking about you.... Your not doing something right" applies here... The Roost has done something that (as far as I know) no other forum has been able to do. The Member's gave there time and donated freely, without conditions there fine products to the Roost.......  and people bought !!! Close to $2,300.00 raised!  *cheers* Porter never asked for it, but we had his blessing to try it. Porter has given us all a  *cool* place to hang out and talk Turkey and I thank him for what he has gone though personally to provide us this site. We all should be Proud of what we have accomplished as member's to give our favorite forum the needed funds for the future. It's no longer one man's responsibility to finance this site. I know without a doubt the money raised is in the right hands and will be used properly and accounted for to the penny for the sole purpose for the betterment of Osage Roost, nothing more and nothing less.

                          Peace  *cheers*

I have seen one common theme in these posts---there will always be cautious folks (rightfull so) with this event, also have noticed that I have not seen a single donator to the event that wouldnt turn right around next month and do it again.
Time will show what this concept is all about and resolve all concerns, how it is handled, and the accountability it has to have.
Brent said something key here---"It's no longer one man's responsibility to finance this site"-----this was the sole reason for creating this event.
Porter---thanks for all you have sacrificed and done for us in the past.......now its our turn as members to move this site into the future.

I am still utterly confused why anyone would care? We're talking about roughly $2500 dollars. Why would someone get upset over that? What is the need to be specific about how the funds will improve the Roost?

I'm just confused about the whole thing I guess. I have gotten a few messages filled with accusations and read the stuff on here. My reaction to everyone of them was, who cares?

To me, it seems that some have an axe to grind personally and have used this situation as their platform. Just my unwanted opinion on the matter.
