Title: New York
Post by: magnoliagamecalls on August 03, 2011, 07:06:12 PM
My 2011 New York trip.  We had some great hunts and got to spend sometime with some great folks. Here is some pictures from the trip. My 1st bird is probably the rattiest (sp) bird that I have ever taken. You cant really tell it in the pictures though. But all of his feathers and fan was all messed up but it didnt keep him from displaying them. We located him then preceeded to climb the side of the mountain he was at the base of. Once we got set up we started calling to him after a little while he gobbled below us. We kept calling and before long a jake was out in front of me and had me pinned down. My friend John started doing some light purring and clucking on a glass call and had the jake work his way. He got to within feet of him and started putting a little but not to alarmed that is when I started calling to him to try and calm him down after a while he continued on behind us. Then we had two hens working our way with the strutter in tow. When I shot him one of the hens was pretty close to John. The hillside we where hunting has alot of big rocks on it and it and he couldnt see the hens and could only see the top of the gobblers fan. I had to let him clear one of the big rocks before dropping the hammer on him.

There are hundred of miles of the rock walls so you have to be careful when doing set ups not to have one of them between you and the bird.

My second bird had a set up hooks on him. He came in spitting and drumming. Some of the loudest that I have heard.

We run across this fawn on my last day of hunting. We jumped it out from under a tree it ran into a hay field.

1st bird had 1" spurs, 9" beard, 17.4lbs
2nd bird had 1 1/4" spurs, 10 1/4" beard, 20.14lbs
